The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, known as Baltic amber, which accounts for nearly 80% of the world's known amber. Its origin dates back 35 to 40 million years (spanning the Eocene and early Oligocene geological epochs).
It is believed to have natural anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, releasing succinic acid upon contact with the skin.
